Element supports Mandela Day Initiative 2016
Element Consulting Engineers and staff chose Tygerberg Hospice as their Mandela Day Initiative. We wanted to contribute to an organization within our community who provide invaluable care and support to chronic patients and palliative care to patients with a life threatening illness. The holistic homebased care to all patients, support to their families and intermediate care facility is a much needed service which is all done on a limited budget and with few resources.
We collected non-perishables and clothing as well as cash donations, which we used to purchase toiletries to prepare 40 gift packs, in order that each patient may receive one. Our visit was met by friendly staff and management who are passionate about their vocation and the hygiene and quality of the facilities provided were impressive.
Element will endeavor to support this worthy institution in future.
Element supports Fallen Angels 2015
This Mandela Day, Saturday 18th July 2015, Element Durbanville supported Fallen Angels, a non-profit animal rescue organisation situated in Melkbostrand in the Western Cape.
The staff collected dog food, old towels and blankets, dog beds, newspapers, dog bowls, leads and made a donation towards the medical expenses.
Fallen Angels Animal Rescue was founded in February 2014 by seven devoted people already active within animal rescue and rehabilitation. They save all their animals from bad environments, broken homes and off the streets. Each and every life they save means something to them. They have an extremely hard working team who dedicate their lives to these animals.
The day was spent renovating and repairing their dog kennels, as the ones which are donated are sometimes in need of a little tlc, as well gardening to make the small holding suitable for their special four-legged guests. The response from the local community was over-whelming and Element Consulting Engineers was proud to support the worthy cause.
Element supports Hagar House
Element Consulting Engineers is a proud to offer assistance and support to Hagar House for abused women and children in Fisantekraal, Cape Town.
Getruida Maartens runs Hagar House and has given up her home to take in a maximum of 7 ladies and their babies. Her and her husband stay in the back of the premises in a converted container. Hagar House relies on donation in order to keep going. Currently they have 5 ladies and 3 babies (aged 1 month, 1 year and 2 years).
Element Durbanville donated boxes of tinned/non-perishable food, 30kgs of soup bones, blankets, ladies socks, toiletries and nappies. We would like to continue to assist them where we are able. They desperately need clothes and toys for the babies, as well as nappies. They will welcome any further donations of food and/or household items. Please contact us if you would like to assist.
Element supports Sunflower Fund Donor Drive
On the 25th April 2012, we were pleased to have 11 Donors who signed up to be registered on the Donor List. A big thank you to Chris from The Sunflower Fund & Linda from Pathcare for visiting us on the day.
Sean Lancaster, the only son of one of our very valued staff, was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML) on the 21 August 2011. He has been for the required chemo-therapy and requires a bone marrow transplant. Sean needs stem cell transplantation from a matched unrelated donor after having recovered from consolidation chemotherapy. To find a suitable donor is a lengthy and costly procedure. Unfortunately, Sean is just one of many South Africans in this situation and with Sean's struggle close to our hearts, the ECE embarked on a Donor Drive with the Sunflower Fund.
It was with great sadness that Sean lost his battle with cancer on 20th August 2012.
How can you Help?
To facilitate this daunting search, bone marrow registers in different countries hold tissue type information of volunteers who have provided small blood samples for testing and recording. Sadly, the chance of finding a matching donor is just 1 in 100 000! The South African Bone Marrow Registry has around 65 000 donors on their database. All it takes is a donation of just two teaspoons of blood to register and possible save someone's life.
