Project Description: Planning, design and project management for the construction of steel cantilever structures at the subway in Schroder Street.
The existing subway has a low vertical clearance to the road and is often subject to impact damage caused by large vehicles. The primary purpose of the portal structure is to house electronic warning equipment and signage that will warn oncoming high vehicles of the low clearance subway. The high vehicles will then be directed on an alternative route. The secondary purpose of the structures is to provide a platform from which to display advertisement boards.

Key Features: Removing direct vehicle access on eastern side and construction of an underpass for the cross movements of vehicles and pedestrians. Vehicular access on western side is to be upgraded and a second underpass is to be constructed for cross movement of both vehicles and pedestrians. Each of the two underpass structures will accommodate two lanes of traffic and will have pedestrian sidewalks on both sides.

Project Description: The Stellenbosch Academy of Sport was completed in December 2011 and will facilitate the coaching of our young sport stars. The project was funded by Remgro. The facility includes accommodation, cafeteria, state of the art gym, conference facilities and all surrounding the central courtyard and swimming pool. Element Consulting Engineers provided the multi-disciplinary professional engineering services for civil, structural, electrical and mechanical works. The project has been done in conjunction with WP Bosch Architects and Davis Langdon Quantity Surveyors.

Project Duration: 1 year and 2 months (14 months)
The third phase of the Rooibos Tea development in Nieuwoudtville consists of an L-shaped building, which contains the processing, packaging and dispatch areas for the plant. The structure comprises steel portal frames and a reinforced concrete mezzanine floor, to be used for storage. Castellated steel rafters have been used to reduce the steel tonnage of the structure. Both the steel and concrete columns are supported on pad footings. The building will be cladded with steel sheeting and a perimeter masonry wall of 1.8m high. The construction of this phase started in January 2011 and should be completed by the end of April 2011.

Project Description: The extension of the parking deck, located at Pick ‘n Pay Brackenfell, was completed in February 2014 and will provide additional parking bays and improve of traffic flow. The project was funded by Pick ‘n Pay and The Saxon Park Trust. The extension and alterations includes the widening of an existing down ramp, new staircase & Lift, additional parking bays and improvement of the overall traffic flow. Element Consulting Engineers provided the multi-disciplinary professional engineering services for structural, traffic and electrical works. The project has been done in conjunction with Forsyth Vermeulen & Partners CC. Quantity Surveyors.

Location: Swellendam, Western Cape
Project Description: The work were awarded to Element Consulting by the Municipality of Swellendam after heavy rain caused heavy damages to Bridges, Low water bridges and other infrastructure in the town of Swellendam, Barrydale and Zuurbraak.New bridges were constructed during this time and other damaged low water bridges were refurbished to new bridges. A Structural Steel pedestrian Bridge was also constructed over the river in Swellendam and stand out as a prominent feature in the town, especially at night time when the whole bridge lightens up. A lot of Gabion work was carried out along certain areas of the river to help to contain the riverbank and to help with the flow of the river. The work will be completed by the end of 2011 and one can be proud of the work carried out by Element personnel who was involved with this project.

Project Description:Initial Design of this project started in 2000. Construction started in June 2006 and was completed end of March 2011. The main structure was founded on piles and the slabs were post tensioning reinforced concrete slabs. A helicopter landing pad is situated on the roof of the main building and is often being used in emergency services. The emergency and trauma unit is one of the most modern and well equipped units in South Africa. This State of the art hospital is a flagship and pace setter in the Western Cape.
